Millwall to play at MVP

MILLWALL’S visit to Mourneview Park and trips to Stranraer and Dublin are the highlights of Glenavon pre-season schedule.

Npower Championship side Millwall will play Glenavon on Saturday, July 21 as part of a tour that also sees them take on Shelbourne and Longford Town.

Glenavon boss Gary Hamilton wished to thank former Glentoran manager Alan McDonald for recommending the club to Millwall as they searched for suitable opponents.

He said: “I have to thank Alan McDonald for making that happen. He was contacted by Millwall, who were looking for a match in Northern Ireland, and he recommended Glenavon. It’s not often you get a club of that stature to come over for free so I have to thank Alan for that one.”

Glenavon begin their pre-season friendlies with a trip to Larne on Saturday, July 7 before travelling to again take part in the Stranraer Tournament the following weekend.

The Blues then return to face Bangor away on Tuesday, July 17 (kick-off 7pm) before the visit of Millwall on the following Saturday.

Glenavon also travel to take on Rathfriland, Annagh United and Dollingstown, amongst others, as yet unconfirmed fixtures before concluding their pre-season schedule with a trip to Dublin on Saturday, August 4 with their opponents also yet to be confirmed.
