MAIDEN City Academy U14 side had an impressive 3-0 success at Warrenpoint, in the National League, on Saturday.

City started brightly and they had a number of chances in the first half, but Eoghan Byrne, Eoghan Crilly and Brandon Brown all went close to opening the scoring.

City continued to dominate the play with midfield trio Josh Green, Odhran McCrossan and Jamie Burke well on top.

Ethan Coll went close after the break and his effort rattle the crossbar before the ball dropped kindly into the arms of Warrenpoint keeper Aaron McBurney.

Although City continued to dominate, Warrenpoint always looked dangerous on the counter attack with Eoghan Byrne looking the likeliest to score.

The opening goal came following good work on the right hand side involving Ryan Higgins, Adam Doherty and Oran McGill.

City were awarded a corner which Adam Doherty delivered well into the box for Brandon Brown to attack and his header gave Warrenpoint’s keeper no chance.

The goal was to give City confidence and belief and they began to play much more fluent football with all players keen to get on the ball, with Justin McGee, Ethan Coll and Oran McGill all springing into life.

Coll netted their second goal when he made his way into the box, going past two players before being upended, referee Darren O’Neill pointed to the spot, from which Coll made no mistake firing low into the net.

Eoghan Crilly and Ian Maxwell combined well to score City’s third and final goal.

Maxwell, who had another outstanding game, sealed his performance with a quality strike from the edge of the box into the top corner.
