Nortel’s miserable run of form continues

It’s seven league defeats on the spin for Nortel after they lost 7-0 to Crumlin Star at The Cliff last weekend.

“As in the Tech match, we were very much in the game in the opening half-hour,” said Nortel boss, Lee McCartney. “I wouldn’t say we were the better team, but we were holding our own until they took the lead with a penalty. After that, they scored three in 10 minutes and 4-0 is not a good scoreline to be going off to at half-time. But we’re down in numbers at the minute and we could do with getting a few new players in!”

Nortel were even more down in numbers when Glenn Hand saw a second yellow turn to red just after the changearound.

Next up for McCarntney’s men is a trip to Killyleagh YC tomorrow afternoon.

Having lost 2-3 at Aircraft Park a week earlier, Mossley came back from two downto grab a point in a 2-2 draw against 1C pacesetters Shorts last weekend. Mossley’s marksmen were Lee Graham and Kyle Crowe.

Garry Campbell’s side are away to Donard Hospital on Saturday.

No wins in the last nine for 18th Newtownabbey Old Boys who slithered into 1C’s bottom three after a 1-0 defeat at Dromore Amateurs.

The Monkstown side have now gone five games on the bounce without a goal.

The only goal of the game came after 10 minutes when Dromore pounced on a loose ball after ‘keeper Andy Green appeared to have been barged while coming for the initial catch.

Eighteenth were reduced to 10 men on 65 minutes when Stuart McQuillan was red-carded.

The Old Boys will leapfrog 11th-placed Bangor Amateurs if they can get the better of the North Down outfit at Cloyne Crescent tomorrow.
