The Ballymena boys enjoyed in a pulsating game of football with Dungiven Celtic, eventually coming out on top in a 4-3 thriller at Coleraine University.

John Devlin’s U7s were also in action at the weekend where they continue to play some really entertaining football each Friday night at the Irish FA’s SSG programme in Ballymoney. The Baby Blues turned in some top displays on the night, winning 3 and drawing 3 matches.

UNDER-10

Northend United 4, Dungiven Celtic 3: Saturday brought the curtain down on the SSG programme at Coleraine and it was cup final day. The side were up against a strong Dungiven Celtic who had beat them early in the year but wanted to put the disappointment of last weeks penalty loss in the final behind them.

They started off brightly with good passing, with one particular move resulting in Euan Pirie finding the net with a cool left foot finish after two minutes. The game was end to end with Dungiven equalising.

Some great work on the right hand side by Pearse McAuley got him to the by line and his cross was only half cleared to allow Callum Burnside to riffle into the roof on the net. More pressure resulted in a corner and from this Lewis Devlin rose to head in the third.

The second half started with pressure from Dungiven but some great defending, saves from Shay McGinley and the woodwork kept the score at 3-1. A long range shot sneaked under the keepers grasp to make it 3-2 but to the side’s credit after great work by Callum Burnside on the right he crossed to the on running Sean McDermott to finish on the second attempt.

With five minutes left Dungiven got a third but the team were able to hold on and on the final whistle there was jubilant scenes from the large support.

Northend: Shay McGinley, Lewis Devlin, Callum Hendron, Callum Burnside, Pearse McAuley, Euan Pirie, Sean McDermott, Conon McKeown, Dan Patterson
