The striker, who netted ’Stute’s second goal just before the break, felt they were always in control and deservedly took the points from Tillysburn Park.

“We definitely were always in control, but to be honest it’s a hard place to come,” stated Parkhouse.

“When you come to Belfast most times it’s tough, but to come to a place like Tillysburn Park, where it’s very windy, there isn’t much of an atmosphere, I thought we took the game to the them from the word go and I thought we were excellent.”

Not only did the ex-Glentoran man score at the weekend, but he also played a major role setting Declan McKeever up for their opening goal and that move was something which was talked about before the game.

“To be fair we spoke about the pace that we have in the side about getting in behind them, because they were very flat, but to be honest it was a great goal from Decky,” he added.

“I felt we probably should have pushed more to score more goals, but we just didn’t want to leave ourselves wide open at the back.”

The Waterside man was thrilled to continue his record goalscoring run and he hopes that run can continue for the remainder of the campaign as ’Stute enter the final stretch with only four games remaining, starting with a trip to Championship One champions elect Ards.

“I was happy to score, because I didn’t score against Dergview and if I had have it would have been four goals in four games, so I was disappointed not to have got a goal against Dergview, but I think at this stage of the season it’s all about getting points.

“All our remaining games are all big and to be fair to the lads, you can see the atmosphere about the place and we are all just looking to crack on and try to pick up as many points as we possibly can and see where that leaves us and hope that other teams in and around us drop points.

“The big thing for us this year was at the halfway stage we were dropping points when we should not have been, but take the Bangor game out of the last four months we have been excellent and we have been playing probably like champions ourselves, but hopefully Ards may take the eye off the ball and we can play the way we have been over the last few weeks and get the points.

“It would have been nice to go into the Ards game still in with a chance to go and win the league, but that’s not to be, but the next best thing is second place and that’s what we are aiming for,” concluded the 31-year-old.
