Patton pounces to hit winner

A goal three minutes from time from Mark Patton gave Glenavon all three points in a 2-1 win at Ballinamallard on Saturday.

Patton side-footed in the winner from six yards just three minutes from time after a mistake by Keohane allowed Glenavon to break Andy McGrory delivered the ball perfectly into he path of the lurking Glenavon striker who made no mistake.

Earlier Glenavon had edged ahead on two minutes, new striker Tiaran Mulvenna making it two goals in two games with a close range header from Kyle Neill’s corner.

The visitors thought they had been awarded a penalty when an assistant appeared to flag for a foul by Nigel Beacom on Gary Hamilton, but referee Hugh Carvill waved play on.

Hamilton left the field of play to make way for sub David Rainey, but he then was sent from the dugout after referee Hugh Carvill showed him the red card on 87 minutes for reacting to a tackle when Gareth McKeown was taken from the pitch with a suspected broke nose after an aerial clash with Richard Lecky.
