Rangers boss will do homework on Newcastle
Carrick boss Gary Haveron admits he will be doing some homework in the next week or two about Newcastle FC, his side’s opponents in the opening round of the Steel and Sons Cup.
“We know nothing about them, but will do a bit of research in advance if the game - the winners set to travel to Orangefield in round two,” he said.
“Some may think that’s a bit early for the Steel Cup to start but it has to be over by Christmas and there are many teams in it.

Meanwhile, Amateur League side Barn United welcome Newington Rangers in the opening round, while Ballymena Premier League new boys Castle Star face a real baptism of fire in their first-ever Steel Cup match when they travel to Lisburn Distillery.
