Reserves hit league leaders for six

Banbridge Rangers Reserves played host to league favourites Armagh City on Saturday and blew them away with a 6-3 win at the Tech pitch.

With six different goalscorers on Saturday, Jasy Hillis would have been delighted to see his team take the three points and edge towards a mid table finish.

Banbridge Rangers created their first chance on 20 minutes and had the opening goal. Andy Mallen’s driven cross with the outside of his boot was headed goalward by Stuart Cairns but when the keeper made a fine save Jason Adamson was on hand to slot home the rebound.

Armagh City equalised on 38 minutes when a free kick from a wide position was curled into the near top corner.

The Gers were back in front within ninety seconds as a long ball forward was left for the Armagh keeper unwisely to allow Stuarty Mallen to nip in and leave himself with a tap in.

With twenty minutes left on the clock Armagh City equalised to make it 2-2 when a long throw was allowed to bounce and was eventually flicked into the far corner by an outstretched boot.

The home side took the lead for a third time in the game on 76 minutes when a quick corner saw Stuart Cairns deflect in a Dean Gordon shot.

Two minutes later saw Dean Gordon score a contender for goal of the season when he unleashed an unexpected volley into the near top corner with venom past the helpless Armagh keeper. The away side showed their resilience by bringing the score line back to 4-3 minutes later from the penalty spot.

The tie was virtually wrapped up when Matthew Dodds caught a half volley just outside the box that saw the keeper rooted to his spot.

Substitute Jordan McCracken got amongst the goals almost immediately when he tapped home from close range. With an astonishing five goals scored in an eleven minute burst at the end of the game.
