Six of the best for Portstewart as they claim NW Cup quarter final spot

THERE were six different names on the score sheet for Portstewart on Saturday as they hammered Mountjoy 6-0 in the NW Craig Memorial Cup.

Gary Taylor’s side put in a confident performance against the Omagh side at a sun soaked Mullaghacall. They face Moyola in the next round.

Owen Peden put the Ports ahead when he scored from a free kick 15 minutes into the tie. Owen Moody doubled the scores with a fine strike from a tight angle.

Ian Todd and Ricky Dunlop added their names to the score sheet early in the second half. A Lee Forgrave effort clipped a Mountjoy player and hit the back of the net to make it 5-0.

Debutante Dylan McKitterick capped off a good day when he hit home with five minutes to go to leave the final score 6-0.

Ports boss Gary Taylor was delighted with the display and was full of praise for teenager McKitterick.

“Dylan is one of a couple of players that came to us from the Academy. We thought we would bring him along and let him do the warm up and have the experience of being with the first team.

“As the game progressed, we threw him on. He’s raw and has a lot to learn, but he took his goal well, and is a promising prospect for the future.”

Portstewart return to league action this Saturday when they travel to Lurgan Celtic. “This will be hard game, they are a physical side, but we have to take confidence from Saturday’s game,” said Taylor. “There were six different scorers on the day and to be honest it could have been more.

“Their keeper pulled off saves from Ryan McAllister, Ryan Doherty, Nigel Turner and Ricky Dunlop.”
