SLIDESHOW: Edmund Rice College win Schools’ Cup

Edmund Rice College lifted the Belfast Senior Schools’ Cup for the first time in their history after defeating Grosvenor Grammar 2-1 in the St Patrick’s Day final.

Goals from Jack McAlinden and Oran Johnston secured the win, after Daniel Larmour had put Grosvenor in front.

The Glengormley school had to battle their way to victory with 10 men after Robert McVarnock saw red in the second half.

Larmour’s 12th-minute curled shot put Grosvenor in the driving seat but McAlinden replied with a long-range free-kick which bobbled over the goalkeeper on 34 minutes.

McVarnock was sent off on the hour before Johnston fired in what turned out to be the winning goal nine minutes later.
