Taughmonagh were only able to field 11 players due to calls to the first eleven and holidays etc, but in the end they put up a creditable performance.

At 3-0 down Justin Mahon pulled one back from the penalty spot, but South were always the superior team and they came back to lead 5-1 before Mahon got his own and Taughmonagh’s second, this time a great effort from 25 yards out.

South added a sixth goal before a Darren Scott volley at the back post gave a brave second eleven their third goal.

Brian McCrudden got two of the South Antrim goals and the others came from Raymond Maguire, Nathan Norwood, Michael Kane and Glen Cameron.

Their manager said it was a sound performance and they were never in any danger of progressing to the next round, though he was disappointed in conceding three goals.

Taughmonagh manager, Jim McCurdy, said he was pleased with the performance and it was good to see the boys score three times against a Premier Division team.

“We were down to the bare bones when it came to selecting a team, but the boys gave it their all,” he added.

Next week’s Match of the Day will feature new boys, Harmony Hill against South Antrim II in Division 2.
