Stewart ready for fresh challenge with the Toon

Striker Johnny Stewart admited feeling disappointed to be leaving Coleraine, but can’t wait to secure a move to neighbours Ballymoney United this week.

Stewart was informed last week along with Stuart McMullan and Shane Jennings that his contract won’t be renewed for next season.

The Portrush-based striker said he is saddened to not have been given a chance to impress Oran Kearney during pre-season training.

“I thought I would be back involved for pre-season but that’s not the case,” said a disappointed Stewart.

“I am truly gutted to not have been offered a new contract.

“However, I can take many positives out of my short spell at Coleraine.

“For example, scoring against Loughgall was a proud moment and I will never forget it.

“I can only thank the first-team players at the club for the way they treated me and for passing on their advice.”

Stewart is set to join Ballymoney United with whom he had a successful loan period last season.

“My main aim is to start enjoying my football again, as well as proving that I am capable of playing regularly at that level,” he added.

“I had a good chat with the new manager and I enjoyed my time with the club last season so it is a straightforward move for me.”
