Town Juniors U14s win the title

Banbridge Town U14s 3

Lower Maze U14s 2

Banbridge Juniors Under-14s hosted Lower Maze at Cheney Park on Wednesday night, knowing that only a win would crown them the winners of their league section in the Mid-Ulster Youth League.

The match didn’t start as planned however, as Lower Maze broke the deadlock after only two minutes when a ball over the top released their striker who finished well.

Maze held firm up until the 18th minute when the Juniors were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area. Up stepped captain Jake Laffin, who placed the ball and picked his spot with pinpoint accuracy to level the scores.

The inevitable goal came for the Juniors through Liam Farrell who hit a half volley on the outside of his boot after a fantastic chipped pass from Michael Rafferty to leave the Juniors ahead at half time.

Maze were awarded a second half penalty which they converted to level the scores.

Maze found their way back into the game, and would have taken the lead only for fantastic saves from Juniors keeper Conor Ward who’s determined and defiant attitude inspired the team to push on.

With only three minutes to go Lee Ward found Jake Dennison who controlled the ball, and lobbed the keeper to secure the victory.
