U11s to be included as Whites’ Academy expands

LISBURN Distillery’s Youth Academy will make an important yet positive step forward by including their Under 11 team as part of the Academy’s expanding mini soccer set up.

Players born in 2003 will play nine-a-side small sided matches instead of 11-a-side full sized games in the new 2013/14 season.

Lisburn Distillery’s mini-soccer co-ordinator, Simon Wragg, explained why the Academy have made the decision: “Fewer players on the pitch allows for all players to have greater touches of the ball, allowing the kids to develop their technique whilst avoiding players being excluded from the match play experience.

“This presents more challenges, along with allowing players to make independent decisions both on and off the ball.”

“Lisburn Distillery Mini-Soccer has a core focus on improving players’ technique, realistic match experiences and coaching that allows for players to have fun whilst learning.

“Our current mini-soccer teams have had a great season so far and the players and coaching staff are a real credit to the club. I am looking forward todeveloping this vitally important part of our Academy and see even more young players at the ’Wee Whites’ next season. ”

Simon also confirmed that Lisburn Distillery will be holding open days for players in May or June for all mini-soccer age groups, which includes players born from 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006.
