U12s finish third in 
prestigious tournament

Rathfriland Youth U12s travelled to Lurgan on Saturday to take part in the in the prestigious Playing for the Future Annual Tournament.

In the opening fixture against Craigavon City Rathfriland opened the scoring after five minutes when a sweet passing move involving Max Wilson and Jake Corbett found Adam Bronte in front of goal who finished from close range.

With their tails up they sealed a 2-0 win when Ryan Tweedie blasted in a cracking volley.

The second game against Belfast side St Oliver Plunkett went pretty much the same way as the first. Two goals from Wilson and a fine finish from Corbett secured a 3–0 win.

Rathfriland ensured they were one of only two teams to top their group with maximum points by seeing off Armagh City 2 – 0 with the help of a goal from Corbett and, an own goal.

The semi-final saw the locals take on the only other unbeaten team and pre-tournament favourites, Mount Merrion FC from Dublin. Unfortunately Rathfriland never really got going in this game and they slipped to a 2 – 0 defeat.

Rathfriland then picked themselves up to clinch third place with a 2 – 0 victory over

Glenavon, helped by goals from Bronte and Corbett as well as a string of fine saves from Jonathan Cartmill.

Soccer Camp at Rathfriland

Rathfriland FC Youth will be hosting a Summer Soccer Camp in association with the IFA at Iveagh Pk from 7–9pm on June 18-20 for children aged 5-16 years old with all new players welcome.
