United U-14s aim for national final place on Friday night

Following on from their compatriots in the senior side, Ballymena United under 14s have their own National cup semi final to look forward to this Friday evening, March 21.

They will face Limavady Youth at Moyola with a 6.30pm ko. The two sides know each other very well, in fact a combined side from both clubs reached the semi finals of the prestigious Foyle Cup in 2012.

Last Saturday’s highlights included another town derby win for a United side, a six goal show from the under 12’s and heroics from under 14 development squad goalkeeper Mark Wilkinson, the impressive Galgorm shotstopper saving TWO penalties in a five goal thriller with Donegal Celtic.

Ballymoney United 3, BUYA 1: The United boys have impressed in recent weeks,but they will be disappointed with this outcome.

Two defensive mistakes cost the Braid boys on another blustery day at Ballysally while the United goal on the day came from in form attacker Robbie Gilchrist with a composed finish.

BUYA 6, TW Braga 1: The group appear to be back to their best and will hope to be peaking just at the right time in defence of their National cup.

On the scoresheet were Lucas Holba, Sean McAllister, Matthew Lorimer, Rian Lennon, Max Davidson and special mention to Jamie Neeson with a well taken goal on his debut.

Carniny Youth 1, BUYA 2: Ballymena opened the scoring when Kieran O’Boyle spread the play to Thomas McKitterick who ran at goal and unleashed a low drive that hit the back of the net.

Carniny then struck with a corner kick and tied the score at 1-1.

On 40 minutes, the deadlock was broken, Scott Marcus delivered a pin point free kick onto the head of Rhys Hemphill who fired in a bullet header.

On 46 minutes, Joshua Simpson with literally his first touch of the ball hammered home a great goal, only to be disallowed for an infringement. MOM - Connor Meneely, Kieran O’Boyle and Rhys Hemphill.

BUYA 2, Culmore 1: The 14s were in action on the 3g and progressed to the second round of the National Plate.

The coaching team gave starts to a number of squad players and United were soon ahead, a corner headed home by regular Joshua Galloway.

Changes were again made a some good United pressure led to a foul on Jamie Stevenson in the box, regular penalty taker Eamon McLauglin finished with aplomb.

Culmore were a solid unit,impressing going forward, hitting the bar and post before scoring.

United look forward to their National semi this Friday evening against Limavady,their coaching team were interested spectators on Saturday.

Warrenpoint 1, Ballymena United 1: With the strong breeze at their backs Warrenpoint put the Ballymena defence under pressure and Shane Gibson tipped a free-kick onto the bar.

Having fallen behind, it was all Ballymena and they finally got the equaliser their good play with a clinical finish from Daniel Black but unfortunately couldn’t find a winning goal.
