However Simpson felt that not all the committee members were backing him and he handed in his resignation and although the club tried to change Simpson’s mind after holding talks, the ex-Lincoln Courts man decided to walk away.
“I just felt I didn’t have the full backing of the committee,” stated Simpson.

United chairman John Dougherty was bitterly disappointed with the resignation and although the committee have a few names in mind as a replacement, they won’t be rushed into making an appointment.
“To be honest everyone at the club were shocked when Gary informed us that he was resigning,” stated Dougherty.

“He will be a big loss, because he has done a fantastic job. I would like to thank Gary for the work he did at the club for the last 18 months.
“We have sounded out a few people, but I have to admit because of the time of the year it’s difficult. Having said all that we won’t be rushing into getting a new manager, we want to get the right man.”

Hide AdDougherty did confirm that the first team squad were talked to after their game on Saturday and he just wants them to focus on their up and coming League Cup final against near neighbours Oxford United Stars.
“The club and especially the players need to focus on our next match, which is a cup final against Oxford United, at Wilton Park, on Saturday, December 28 (KO 1.30pm).
“At the minute Glenn Wallace, Jason Mills and Craig Lynch are taking care of things in regards the playing side, which is great.”
The club would like to take this opportunity to invite people to apply for the manager’s job.
