Westbann in seventh heaven

Westbann FC recorded their biggest victory of the season when they beat Upperlands 7-1 at Anderson Park on Saturday.

With both teams playing good passing football it was Westbann who were unlucky not to take the lead when McAleese with his back to goal turned and fired the ball from thirty yards stricking the post. It was Upperlands though who took the lead after twenty minutes firing in from twenty yards giving Clarke in the Westbann goal no chance.

Westbann drew level five minutes later when Chris Boreland fired home after good work from Johnny Thompson. And they took the lead just before half time with a good goal from Declan McGahon.

The hosts dominated in the second half with the midfield of Reed, Coyles and McGahon creating some great chances for Boreland and McAleese.

Boreland capped a superb performance scoring a great hat-trick in the second half and goals from Jay Reed and Colin McAleese made the final result 7-1 to Westbann.

Upperlands should’nt be disappointed with this result as they played good passing football but they met a Westbann team full off running and in defence Fergal McManus and Simon Mckay in particular stood out.
