Whatever happens, Rodgers can be proud

The Reds squandered a 3-0 advantage at Selhurst Park as Crystal Palace hit back with three late goals in a nine-minute spell.

Right now, it’s Liverpool who top the Premier League - a point ahead of Manchester City who have a game in hand. It’s City’s title to lose, but the outcome of tonight’s clash with Aston Villa could yet provide another twist.

Regardless of what happens, the Carnlough man can be proud of his achievements. In just under two years at the helm, the 41-year-old has restored a palpable sense of belief at Anfield. And he’s done it in style. Rodgers’ brand of football has, at times, been mesmerising.

Of course, the back four needs to be strengthened. Rodgers himself bemoaned his side’s ‘criminal’ defending after Monday’s deflating draw, before admitting that he thinks City will go on to lift the coveted trophy.

But the man from the Glens can hold his head high and look forward to going up against some of the world’s best coaches at the top table of European football in the Champions League.
