Whites U17s clinch title

Distillery’s U17 side wrapped up the league title on Saturday.

After Saturday’s 3-2 victory over Sunnyside, they have won all 18 games played to date and cannot be caught even with six games remaining, though they cannot make it a hat-trick of trophies as they lost to Hillsborough Boys in the Cup.

A Danny Hawe double and a goal for Chris Walmsley saw the Whites to their win. Some of the victorious team have already featured for the Whites’ youth team and will soon hope to force their way into the first team and help get the Whites back to the top tier.

Great credit must go to the coaching team of Richard Evans and Sam Allen who, after winning the NIBFA Cup in 2011 with the then U17s, took over the team as an average U15 side and turned them into League Champions.

The U16s are still on course to be crowned champions after a 3-2 win over Dromara kept them five points clear with a game in hand. A 1-1 draw with Greenisland consolidated their place in the top three for the U15s with a cup semi-final to come while second place Ballymena had to be at their best to see off the ever improving U12s 3-1. Jake Hull scored a great goal for the U9s against Crusaders and the U8s worked extremely hard against a good SOPYC. Both U10 teams produced super displays against St. Marys and Springfield Star. Jack Bonar, Ross White, Conall Cunningham and Calum Ashby got on the score-sheet.
