Winless Whites out of luck

Lisburn Distillery’s winless run stretched to five matches on Saturday as Dundela sealed a 2-0 win.

Distillery had already been hit for six twice by the Duns this season and thing’s didn’t look like getting much better just eight minutes into this one as the home side took the lead.

Dundela winger Daniel Burns found Owain Beggs and the former Distillery loanee cooly slotted it into the gaping net.

Dundela had started the game the more lively in the opening exchanges and Mark Snodden’s side went agonisiliy close to a second as a Burns corner found the head of Scott Collins, his flicked header just going wide.

Dundela had another clear cut chance as Beggs ran through only for a superb last ditch tackle by Neil Alderdice to deny him and as the game continued to ebb and flow, the next chance then fell to Distillery. They could have levelled only for Kingsberry’s shot being well saved by McKay.

Dundela almost grabbed a second when a superb back-heel flick found Halliday in space but he blazed the ball over the bar to the relief of all the Whites supporters making the trip to Wilgar Park.

Lisburn Distillery had a perfect chance to open their account seven minutes into the second half as Upton’s through ball found O’Connor but his shot was fired straight at McKay and then as Distillery continued to press they had another good chance as O’Connor’s pass found Doyle but his shot was also well held by McKay.

The Whites brought on young Mikey Withers to replace the lively Luke Wilson and it was Withers who created the Whites next decent chance on 75 minutes. His sweeping cross found the head of Doyle but his effort went over the bar.

Stephen Doyle came off to be replaced by Jimmy McIlhagga as manager Kincaid tried to shake things up but it was the hosts who were to get the second and decisive goal. It was scored by Glentoran loanee Carl McCombe, who placed a delightful lob over McBride in the Distillery goal.

Distillery’s day then went from bad to worse as they were reduced to ten men as the returning McIlhagga was sent off for allegedly leading with his arm in a challenge. Dundela could then have added another but McCombe’s powerful strike was well saved.

It was once again a battling performance by the Whites with lady luck deserting them at key times. The winless run continues but surely if they keep battling, the results will start to turn sooner rather than later.
