Friends’ lose out to Limavady in Schools’ Cup

FRIENDS’ School, Lisburn took on Limavady in the 3rd Round of the Danske Bank Schools’ Cup on Wednesday.

Limavady arrived as strong favourites but Friends’ knew if they played to their full potential, they could maybe cause an upset. Friends’ started well and had an early penalty which unfortunately was pulled wide by the wind, however, Limavady managed to convert a penalty in front of the posts 7 minutes in.

Limavady kept pushing forward and due to missed tackles scored in the corner, however, they missed the conversion but were up 8-0 after 10 minutes.

Friends’ fought back with a penalty by Ross Robinson however, again mistakes in defending allowed Limavady to slide into the corner with another unconverted try. The score stood at 13-3 at half time.

The second half was evenly contested and it was only with 5 minutes to go that Limavady scored with a quick turn over and break down the blind side. They were awarded with a penalty immediately after in front of the posts which they managed to convert.

Friends’ showed some pride in the last minute of the game and Peter Ferguson managed to crash over scoring in front of the posts. The game finished with Limivady winning 21-10, however, Friends’ have gained great confidence from this match and will enter the Bowl Competition with high hopes.
