Friends’ return with medal haul from Swim Ulster Schools’ event

Twenty pupils from Friends’ competed in the Swim Ulster organised Schools’ Event with great success.

The following pupils finished in the top six in their events:

In the Minor Boys age group Dawson Patterson was 6th Freestyle 50m and Noah Poots was 6th Butterfly 50m.

The Junior Girls Medley and freestyle Relay team of Eloise Gregg, Sasha Quinn, Jodie Marshall and Katie Martin came 6th in both events.

The Intermediate Girl level Victoria Hunter 4th 200 IM and the Relay team of Namona Taggart, Victoria Hunter, Abbie Crookshanks, Rachel Ledbury came 6th in the Medley and Freestyle events.

At senior level Chris Loan was 5th 100 Freestyle.

The following swimmers came in the top three on the day:

In the Girls 12 year old category Sasha Quinn won bronze in 50 Metre Freestyle and 50m Butterfly.

In the Boys 12 Years old Dawson Patterson won bronze in the 50m Backstroke and Noah Poots won silver in the Individual Medley.

Junior Boys: Paul Cox won silver in the Breaststroke and 200m Individual Medley.

The Junior Boys Relay team of Paul Cox, Dawson Patterson, Noah Poots, Oliver Kidd came 2nd in the medley and 3rd in the Freestyle relay events.

At Intermediate level, Victoria Hunter claimed bronze in the 100m Butterfly. Craig Boyce 3rd in the 100m freestyle. Jamie Allison came 3rd 100 Fly and 2nd in the 200 Individual Medley.

At senior level Alexandra Hunter won silver in the 100m Fly and Chris Loan won bronze in the 100m Backstroke.

Friends’ Prep

Swimming success

Pupils from Friends’ Prep enjoyed a successful day at the inaugural Swim Ulster Schools Cup & Championships, which took place in Bangor, on 17 October.

Nine pupils represented the Prep at this event, competing against pupils from all over the province.

Four pupils reached the finals of their individual events. Sophie Kidd, P7, finished 10th in the Under 11 Girls IM and Tom Rowlatt-McCormick, also P7, made the final of the Under 11 Boys Freestyle. Haydn Maguire, P5, qualified for the final of the Under 9 Boys Freestyle and finished in 6th place. Ryan Raffo, P6, reached the finals of the Under 11 Breaststroke and Freestyle events.

He finished in seventh place in Freestyle and swam superbly to claim bronze in the Breaststoke.

Ryan Raffo and Sophie Kidd swam in times fast enough to qualify them for the Irish Schools’ Minor Swimming Championships, due to be held in February 2016.
