Frosty start for young Moneyslane side

Moneyslane U9s 0

Warrenpoint Town 4

THE under nines were back to a frosty start after their winter break.

From the start 'Point made good use of their possession and went one up as Mark Jardine just failed to save.

'Slane tried to pick themselves up and good battling from Joshua Crawford set up Jordan Davis but their keeper collected well.

More pressure was put on the 'Slane side and lack of communication at the back gave the 'Point their second.

Max Wilson dropped back to beef up the defence with Stephen Moorhead tackling hard to gain control.

The next goal would make the difference and it was more indecisive play at the 'Slane's back which let the 'Point go three up at the break.

The Manager tried to instil some confidence in the young 'Slane keeper as the frosty conditions proved difficult.

Making his presence felt Ethan Banks took control on the right and cut in to hit a long drive but just went wide.

'Slane worked hard to get something out of this game but a blocked goal kick gave Warrenpoint an undeserved fourth and a bad start for the under nines.

Man of the match Stephen Moorhead.

Killowen 1

LOOKING at the fixture list this was a game in which 'Slane fancied their chances.

This did not go to plan as Killowen from their first attack saw their well hit shot just go out of reach for Jardine.

The frustration was obvious and Max Wilson collected from the centre and went on a great individual run, rounding the defence to hit the back of the net, equalling the score.

This picked the team up with good work from Crawford who found Davis in front of goal whose death-touch put the 'Slane ahead.

Starting to play to their potential, Moneyslane worked their best goal with good passing from Wilson and Banks to pick out the pace of Crawford who latched an unstoppable shot for the third goal.

After the interval the young side seemed to play the game they knew they could. Clydesdale kept it safe at the back and this gave Moorhead room to run and his precision pass found Banks on the right.

Finding the space ahead Banks cut in and his goal-bound effort was just helped in by the defender.

This was more like the under nines and it ended with Davis again receiving from good mid-field interplay to make it a more satisfying result - with his second and Moneyslane's fifth.

Best for Moneyslane was Jordan Davis.
