Three changes from Canavan though, changed the complexion of the match.
Slaughtneil had been close to untouchable in the first half with Patsy Bradley dominating the midfield exchanges and the Emmet’s half back line causing the Cavan men plenty of problems.
The Derry champions led at the interval largely due to the accuracy of Paul Bradley who kicked five first half points for his side.
