Garvey bowl them over at NIBA Championships

It was one of the best seasons ever for Lisnagarvey at the NIBA Championships and it culminated in receiving the George Richardson Bowl for the best club performance.

The trophy, presented to the NIBA a few years ago by George Richardson, is handed over to the club having the best overall performance, based on points for reaching the various stages at the Championships.

Garvey appeared in five of the seven finals, winning the singles and pairs.

Unfortunately they failed to add to their tally on Thursday night when Ivan Craig and Neil Mulholland lost 9-21 to Barry Browne and Martin McHugh, Whitehead.

Promotion chances fade

Lisnagarvey B’s chances of promotion from NIBA Division 4 faded when they lost by eight shots away to Holywood and only took two points.

A bad spell over the closing ends cost Garvey dearly when they were on course for a win.

Alton Reid got their big win, by 14 shots and Bobby Carroll also won by four shots.

Dromore B are probably out of the promotion race in NIBA Division 5 following a three shots defeat by one of the other challengers, Portadown B, who took five points.

Ahead 9-8 at the tenth and 12-11 at 15 ends Tommy Wilson pulled away to win by six shots.

At the tenth Tom Sudlow was 12-8 ahead and 17-13 five ends later. The margin remained the same with Dromore winning by four shots.

Down 7-9 at the tenth but 15-11 ahead at 15 ends Sammy Malcolmson dropped a last end double to lose by three shots.

At the tenth Raymond Malcolmson was 9-7 ahead but 12-18 down at 15 ends and Dromore lost by ten shots.
