GOLF: Joe Bradley wins May Day competition at Foyle

The Drinks Inc Sponsored May Day Open Stableford at Foyle was well supported with the competitors having to contend with difficult scoring conditions because of strong winds and blustery showers.

Joe Bradley (15) took the honours after a three way 36 points break of tie as Stephen Doherty (11) and George Fitzpatrick (17) finished second and third respectively.

The gross winner after a BOT finish was Kevin Thomas after he scored 28 points and Ballyliffin’s Bryan Northey (5) with 30 points won the visitor’s prize.

The back nine was claimed by James Meehan (25) after he scored 20 points and the ladies prize went to Anne Hamilton (14) after she scored 33 points.

The Circle of Autuism Charity Open went to Garvin McGuigan (14) after scoring 38 points, second was Stephen Martin (1) after he scored 37 points and a further point behind in third spot was Albert Gurney (12).

Dane McCafferty (20) with 42 points came out on top in the club stableford competition.

Today (Wednesday) sees the Club Stableford and meal deal competition take place, there’s the usual Friday Open, while on Saturday the Amelia Earhart Legacy Association Charity Open takes centre stage, while a club stableford competition is down for decision on Sunday.

The Over 50’s competition (one card only) gets underway on Monday, May 9th and continues next Tuesday and Thursday.

Meanwhile Roe Park has partnered with Ireland’s biggest amateur golf tournaments to bring The Golf Digest Volvo Open to Limavady.

Proudly being the biggest prize fund in amateur golf the Open is set to be the biggest event thus far at the four star resort with a simply amazing array of exclusive prizes for male and female golfers of all handicap categories.

While last weekend the Bonds Jewellers sponsored a four man Team Classic on Saturday was won by Martin Butcher, Liam Berryman, Lee McIlroy and Mark Caughey after scoring 101 points.

In second place were Martin Rafferty, Barry Toland, Noel McClarey and Club President James McGuinness with 89 points and third place went to Robert Godfrey, Nigel Mearns, Eamon Barkley and Neville Martin.

Roe Park also played City of Derry in the afternoon in the first round home leg of the Ulster Fourballs and it ended in a draw.

The Spring League was won by the team of Malcolm Stuart, Darren McVeigh, Neville Martin and Cathal McNicholl.

This week sees the years second Monthly Medal on Saturday with fantastic prizes provided by sponsors SJ Mitchell & Co. There will also be the usual club competitions on Thursday and Sunday.
