All to play for atCity of Derry

THE City of Derry Building Society Open takes place at Prehen on Saturday and it will also be the final counting competition for the Society’s Order of Merit that started back in April.

Decided on each players best 15 stableford cards over the season it reflects very clearly on who is the outstanding Golfer at the club in 2013.

With just one competition left it looks a foregone conclusion, barring an absolute miracle that the issue has already been decided with Stephen McKeegan on 558 points holding a seemingly unbeatable 18 point advantage over the second placed player.

The rest of the places are not so clear cut with only nine points of a difference currently between second and sixth place. Ernie Heywood has 540 points, a single point ahead of Kealan Quigg who sits on 539 points. Next on the list are George Curry who has made an outstanding impression with his performance at the club this season and Lester Moore both of whom have 535 points.

The quietly spoken Jim McDaid lies in sixth place on 531 points followed by another category one player (five of them in the top ten) Tommy McBride on 530 points. Kevin Mark Doherty is next on 527 points with Shane Kelly in ninth place on 526 points. Tenth place is taken by Tony McDermott on 517 points. He is also the leading veteran in the competition, a separate prize is on offer in that category and hot on his heels in that division are two prominent campaigners Wyn Donnell 513 and John Hancock 512.

Details of the new date for playing The Chamber’s Concrete sponsored Team Classic, that was postponed on Saturday due to the torrential rain, will be announced shortly.
