All’s well for Lawell as 36 hole tournament ends well

Sean Lawell held on after a stunning first round to win the Rockmount 36 hole competition sponsored by Rockmount Enterprises.

Played over Saturday and Sunday, it’s always a favourite on the season calendar.

After Saturday’s opening round, Sean Lawell (19) led the way with a very good score of 41 points. The chasing pack were hot on his heels though, James Hume (5) and Colin McClenaghan (2) both scoring 40 points.

Richard Weir (14), Conor Drummond (6) and Simon Gray (7) were two shots further back on 38 points, with a further handful of players on 37.

The best gross on the day was Colin McClenaghan’s two under par score of 70.

On Sunday, the winds got up but the scoring was equally as good. Gents Captain Paul Banford (12) was first with 41 points. Kenny Craig (17) was second with 40, while Robert Gibson (27) was third on 38, Bill McBrien (13) fourth on 37 and Colin Childs fifth with 36.

Front runner Sean Lawell added 34 points to his first day’s score to total 75 which was enough to win this year’s Rockmount 36-hole competition.

Robert Burns (21), with rounds of 37 and 35, was second and James Hume, second on day one, added 32 points to his score to finish third. Both Robert and James finished with 72 points.

Juniors

On Sunday 5 October, a team of Juniors travelled to Bangor Golf Club to contest the first leg of the final of the Jonny Dixon Trophy.

The team performed well in testing conditions but will take a 5-2 deficit into the home leg next Sunday. There were wins for Andrew McClure and Jordan Fletcher. The unfortunate losers were Conor McLeenan, Conor Montgomery, John Dickson, Macauley Kinnear and Aidan McMannus.
