Arctic conditions fail to stop the Lisburn golfers as Terry takes a win

With Colin Mountain covered in snow the golfers anticipated arctic temperatures. When the sun appeared conditions became more amicable and 106 golfers completed the nine holes.

The first two holes were played as par threes. The second hole was only 90 yards and yielded nine birdie twos.

David Gardiner had a brace of twos while Stephen Stewart hit the shot of the day when he holed his second at the par four fifth.

With five threes in the first six holes, Terry Smith (17) had a massive 28 points for the best card of the day. He just won Division 2 by one point from David Gardiner (16) who paid dearly for a five at the final hole.

Mervyn Mawhinney (14) played very consistently to record seven fours one three and one five for a round of 36 and 25 points.

With only one five on his card Darren Welsh (12) completed the front nine in 34 for 26 points to win Division 1 Stephen Stewart (9), Brian Patterson (13) and David Scott (12) had 24 points with Stephen’s better finish securing second place.

John McMillan (20) Roy Catney (26) and George Heatherington (20) topped Division 3 with 27 points.

The outcome was decided on the last three holes. An eight at the eighth ruled out Roy. George finished with three bogeys. With two pars and a bogey at the eighth John claimed first place ahead of George.
