Banbridge Senior Cowdy team convincingly defeat County Armagh

The Banbridge Senior Cowdy Cup team, captained by Colin Wilton, beat County Armagh Golf Club quite convincingly last week.

The away leg was played first and the Banbridge team were very pleased to come away only four points adrift. The score was 18-14 in favour of Armagh.

Rory Madeley and Paul Magennis were the star performers with three and a half points each. Scott Nelson got three points. Both Mark McCoy and Barry Tumilty got two points.

The second leg was played over the Huntly Links last Friday evening. Banbridge needed 18.5 points for victory.

They went about the task with real gusto. All eight players were ahead after nine holes. That was eight points in the bag.

All credit to the Armagh team as they fought bravely right to the end.

Jonathan Burns lost by one hole to Jarlath McReynolds. Jonathan was disappointed but he need not have worried.

Paul Magennis beat Philip Kelly 3 and 1 and got all four points.

Scott Nelson beat Stuart Stevenson 6 and 4 and he too got all 4 points.

Kieran Magennis halved his game with Johnny Hewitt. That was another 2 points for Banbridge.

Barry Tumilty beat Niall Brady 5 and 4 and he got three points. Jamie Thompson beat Shay Brady 4 and 3 and he too collected 3 points.

That was it all over. Banbridge had reached a winning total of 33 points. Matthew Mallon went on to beat Adam Cromwell 4 and 2 and took the maximum four points.

William Malcolmson beat an out-of-touch James Conlon 8 and 6 and he also got fourpoints.

Banbridge won the match overall 39-25 and they now go into the quarter- finals where they will play either Tandragee or Dungannon.
