Broken toe fails to halt run of Katrina’s team

Team golf is very much to the fore on the golfing horizon at the minute, with the Walker Cup and the Solheim Cup approaching, and the ladies competition this week was also a team event, a nine hole scramble and there were some very good scores with players having three attempts at each shot.

The winning team, by the smallest of margins, were Katrina Bradford, Fiona Cummins and Helen Stewart with a nett 30.4.

Katrina was playing with a broken toe, but she didn’t let this hold her back and the team made the most of her steady long game.

Fiona loves team golf and a few exquisite pitches made the putting very easy for the team’s pars but the highlight of the round had to be Helen Stewart’s superb putt for a birdie on the 7th which she slotted away to the delight of her team mates. This is Helen’s first win and definitely won’t be her last.

The runners up just beaten by 0.1 were the experienced three ball Christine Hagan, Dianne Patterson and Heather Shaw who shot an under par round of 35 resulting in a nett score of 30.5.

Their round consisted of eight pars with their birdie coming at the third and all the players enjoyed breaking par even if it was a team effort.
