Captain’s Day triumph for John at Dunmurry Golf Club

George Gillespie had a wonderful, if not totally dry day, for his Captain’s Day at Dunmurry Golf Club, last Saturday,

Around 250 golfers ventured out, with the hope of taking home, one of the fantastic prizes laid on by the Captain.

It was John Farr who captured the biggest of all, scoring a whopping 43 points to win by one.

The 23 handicap golfer made very good use of his shots, particularly over the front nine, amassing 23 points.

A par at the tenth and a second ‘two’ of his round, at sixteen, were the highlights of his back nine, which helped him to 20 points, and his final total of 43 points.

A fine start for Brendan McMurray (10), enabled him to take home second prize with a 41 point score.

Pars at his first four holes set the tone for his round. A marvellous birdie at the ninth, saw him reach the turn with 22 points gained.

Archie Macmillan (13) matched Brendan’s score with a 41 pointer of his own, but eventually settled for third after count back.

Best Gross on the day went to Derek McLachlan (3), with a storming finish of four birdies in his last six holes, giving him a three under par score of 67.

Derek ran up eleven pars over the first twelve holes.

Birdies at thirteen, fourteen, sixteen and seventeen, turned a good day into a great one, as he came home in 31 shots to take the crown.

Dunmurry Golf Club’s Belfast and District Cup team had a convincing 9.5 to 4.5 win against Kirkistown to set up a quarter-final tie against Belvoir.

The Hold Shield Team safely made it through to the knockout stages after a fine 3-2 win at Mahee Island. The result saw them finish on 38 points for the six group matches, which tied with Malone, after they were successful at Clandeboye by a 3.5-1.5 margin.

The draw for the last sixteen will take place on July 1st.
