Captain’s Trophy mixed contest take place at Rockmount GC

The annual Captain’s Trophy Mixed Competitions took place at Rockmount Golf Club on Sunday August 4, following a successful Captain’s Day the previous day.

With the cob-webs from the previous night’s exuberance blown away, some twenty six pairs set out to win this trophy.

The Gents Captain Glenn Willis and Lady Captain Noeleen Houston had the honour of driving off first playing with the Gents Vice Captain Paul Banford and Lady Vice Captain Janet Douds, neither pair threatened the prizes.

Joint proprietors and husband and wife Robert and Diane Patterson topped the field with 41 points beating Thomas Rossi and Heather Wedlock second by two points and Michael and Catherine Ross third by the same margin.

Rockmount’s John Dickson Junior team played Scrabo Golf home and away on consecutive days with a place in the semi-finals at stake. In a closely fought match the Rockmount team was victorious and will take a place in the semi-final, their opposition has yet to be decided.

The August Medal on Sunday 4th and Monday 5th August was won by Reece McKeown (09), with Jimmy Robinson (07) second and Neil Jamison (20) all three had nett 68’s with places decided on count-back.

Saturday 10th August was the Mascott Construction sponsored competition. Reece Wilson (15) was first with 41 points and Warren Burnside (05) was second with 40 points. The low section (0 -11) was won by Enda Cunningham (11) with 38 points, the mid-section (12 – 17) was won by John Morgan (17) with 39 points and the high section (18 – 28) was won by Brian Hasson (21) who also had 40 points.

Best gross on the day was from Michael Stewart (06) who had a five over par gross score of 77.
