Crawford ‘sweeps’ to victory at Raceview

Playing off 12, Brian had a great send-off as he birdied the opening hole for four points, only to come down to earth on the next hole where he dropped two shots.

The next two holes were parred before another double bogey and he went on to complete the nine holes with a birdie, bogey and two pars for 21 points.

He then entered the back nine with a pair of bogeys and the next seven holes accounted for six pars plus a dropped shot on the par three 14th for another 21 points.

His total of 42 was two better than Brian McDermott (22) whose front nine was made up of six pars and three double bogeys for 23 points.

His back nine began with a par but the next two holes produced a triple bogey and a non-score while double bogeys followed at 13 and 14 before he completed his round with two pars and two bogeys for 17 points but his last six hole score was two points better than third-placed George Horner.

The 13-handicapper had two birdies and two bogeys in his opening four holes and completed his front nine with four pars and a dropped shot for 23 points but he, too, could only add 17 points on the homeward nine from three pars, four bogeys and double concessions at 11 and 16.

Fourth nett was Dean S Kernohan who, with a shot on handicap at each hole, returned 39 points and his round included ‘dings’ at the third and 11th, but he also had a birdie on the penultimate hole.

Another 18-handicapper, Trevor Graham, also scored 39 points but his last six hole total was two less than Kernohan.

However, he was one point better over those six holes than sixth nett Gerard McCann (17).

Steven Smyth (4) notched up another best gross card for the second Saturday in succession, this time with a two over par round of 70 shots.

WEDNESDAY OPEN

The Wednesday open stableford resulted in a win for James Kirk (14) who scored 38 stableford points.

Twenty one of those came from the front nine where he had six pars, two bogeys and a double bogey on the par four sixth. The back nine had three pars, four bogeys and two double bogeys for an additional 17 points.

Second nett was Fred Dawson (6) with 37 points, while the gross prize was won by two-handicapper John Robinson.
