Glenn plays flawless golf to secure Redcastle title

VINCENT Glenn took charge at Redcastle recently and shot a flawless round of golf the low handicapper carded a superb 42 points running a close second was Danjo McLaughlin 39 points and Willie Watson atking third with 38 points.

The gross went to Billy Harkin 27 points, the front nine was claimed by John Murray after he scored 24 points and after a break of tie finish Willie McClelland with 19 points won the back nine.

Winter League is now up and running from Friday to Wednesday each week playing 12 holes.

On Thursday, October 21, Kevin Stevens Secretary of G.U.I Ulster Branch will give a discussion on the Rules Of Golf, starting at 7pm sharp at the Charlton Hotel, Redcastle and there is an open invitation to members from all over the North-West to attend.

There will also be a question and answer session after the discussion.

The Ladies competition, which took place on Sunday, September 26 was won by Gena Porter (23) after she scored 41 points, second was Frances McLaughlin (18) who scored 37 points and Una Smyth (26) with 36 points was third.

The gross prize went to Margaret McColgan after she scored 18 gross points; Audrey McGurk (29) with 19 points won the front nine and Hazel Browne (19) with 20 points won the back nine; Lucy Smyth (20) with 35 points won the visitor's prize.

In the men's nine hole competition Bo Kelly (20) with 23 points came out on top, second was Stuart Tinney (18) after he 22 points.

The Lady Captain Una held her Doe outing in Portstewart Golf Club on Saturday, a great day was had by all in excellent weather conditions with Jennie Flanagan coming home in first place, second was Geraldine McCrory, third was Glady Curtis.

The gross winner was Hazel Browne, Audrey McGurk won the front nine and the back nine was claimed by Una Morrison.

The Winter League has now started a 9 hole competition can be played from Monday to Sunday last cards 2pm on Sunday.

Meanwhile Lady Captain Una and fellow Lady members would like express their sincere sympathy to fellow member Lyn on the recent death of her husband Miller.
