Golf: Captain Fallon happy friend wins at Foyle

The members at Foyle turned out in force on Saturday to play for their very popular captain Mr Peter Fallon’s Captains Prize.

James McCallion, Colm McCay, Danny McCay and Gary McCloskey getting proceedings underway in bright sunshine but unfortunately after a few hours play an almighty down pour descended upon the course with play having to be suspended, after approximately one hour play resumed uninterrupted with decent conditions for the remainder of the day.

The competition for the wonderful array of prizes on offer was intense with just a single point separating the top four finishers, with the Captains long time friend stretching back to their Primary School days Jack McAteer proving a very popular and delighted winner of the coveted Captains Prize with a fine 39 points, Ciaran O’Doherty, Anthony Jackson and John McDowell finishing second, third and fourth respectively after a three way 38 points break of tie.

The front nine went to Seamus Ferry (16) after he scored 22 points and Gary Kennedy (10) won the back nine he too scored 22 points. The captains Prize for the Ladies turned out to be a family affair with the Captain’s sister Nicky Fallon scoring 39 points to win.

The PFS Accountants Open Stableford was won after a break of tie by Declan Hutton (17) after he scored 36 points, second also a BOT finish was Gary Kennedy who too scored 36 points and John Spence (7) was third.

This week’s competition starts tomorrow as the Confined Golf Classic, which also continues on Saturday and Sunday (Re-Entry Permitted); on Friday the Desmond Motors Open stableford takes place.
