Golf: Poor weather can’t stop Forsythe at Roe Park

Roe Park saw its fair share of golf action last week despite the dismal summer weather of late.

There was plenty to play for with a Club Stableford held on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday with Limavady Travel providing sponsorship for Saturday’s competition.

Jonathan Forsythe scored 40 points to take the victory and strike a blow for left handers everywhere.

Andy Dunn had a great round scoring 39 points to take the runner-up spot.

Young Phillip Callaghan continues to improve as he scored 38 points to take third place.

There were no surprises as to who won the gross prize as Kieran Berryman shot a two over round of 72 to continue his excellent form.

Saturday saw a Club Stableford with sponsorship provided by Limavady Travel. Robert Godfrey and Alan Rankin both scored 39 points with Robert taking the victory thanks to the count back rule.

Bryan McCartney claimed third spot thanks to his 38 points and who else but Kieran Berryman winning the gross prize.

Indeed Kieran is playing the golf of his life at the moment and proudly sits 43 points clear at the top of Golfer of the Year leaderboard.

With only four weeks remaining of the competition it is going to take a monumental effort from the likes of Andy Young and Ricky Cochrane to stop him winning a fourth straight title in a row.

Sunday saw the Roe Park ladies Junior Foursomes team travel to Tandragee GC to play their semi-final match against local rivals Royal Portrush.

Team Captain Bernie Lowry was hoping for a good performance and wasn’t disappointed as her team played brilliantly to emerge victorious and progress to the final. They will now play Malone Golf Club at Masserene.

Up next is the Trustees Cup Four Ball Better Ball sponsored by O’Kane’s Service Station, played over both Thursday and Saturday.

The North West Inter Club League team also travel to Greencastle Golf Club for the first leg of their third round match.
