Golf: Senior and junior members shine at Prehen

Best of the Seniors was Russell McGowan (14) playing for the first time in that section and continuing on his recent good form, he was a prize-winner in the recent four ball competition and now has proved he can fly solo too.

Shane Kelly (17) was second on 40 points, a score that was already in the bag after 17 holes but a disastrous blank on the last cost him dearly.

Paul McIntyre (17) also had a blank on the back nine, but he also had 40 points just losing out to Shane on a tie break.

Stephen Loughlin (20) was first in the Junior section, nines of 21 and 22 giving him his winning total and another break of tie decided the second and third in that category, Robert Simpson (7) getting the benefit of a count back with 23 of his 41 points total coming on the back nine to leave Richard Peoples (14) in the third spot.

Ronan Curran (23) from Letterkenny Golf Club took the top honours at Prehen in the weekly Thursday Open with a well compiled 43 points and a three point winning margin.

In the previous week’s competition he had taken third place with 38 points that included three blanks and was forecast to improve on that performance.

He did so in great style and this time he only recorded one blank but he also had three four pointers.

A break of tie decided second place with John Hamilton (8) getting the verdict over John Woods (15), both players scoring 40 points. Graham Hepburn (5) won the best gross with 34 points on tie break.

Foyle Golf Club member Mark McKeone (9) was the best of the visitors with 36 points.

Meanwhile A Londonderry golfer will have no excuse for missing his next tee-time after winning a limited-edition BOSS watch for achieving a hole-in-one.
