GOLF: Team 20 starts as Winter League favourites

The Qualifying section of the Desmond Motors Winter League came to a conclusion over the weekend at Foyle and in what has turned out to be a very competitive and close contest.

The eight teams that will contest the Final on Saturday 5th December have been identified.

Long time qualifying leaders Team 14 failing to hold on to the top spot when the very strong Team 20 consisting of Kieran Doherty, Emmet O’Kane, Michael Mullin and John O’Kane came through.

On their last card they accumulated total of 736 points meant they claimed the leading qualifiers spot by three points and will go into the final as favorites for the title.

Team 14 of Mark Doherty, Ciaran O’Doherty, Michael Henry and Dermott Harkin finished in second spot on 733 points.
Team 22 of Sean McEleney, Peter Roddy, Martin McEleney and Paul McEleney finished third place after they scored 722 points.

The last two qualifying places in the final was an even more competitive affair with one point separating four teams with Teams 1 and 10 making the final by a slender one point margin.

The Ladies Winter League also came to a conclusion at the weekend with Team 2 consisting of Myra Gough, Lorna Thompson and Florence Rankin claimed the coveted title with an accumulated score of 407 points.

Team 8 of Anne Hamilton, Christine McCafferty and Margaret Killen finished second with 402 points and Team 23 of Ann Fulton, Denise Callan and Ann K Hamilton were third after they scored 379 points.

The Turkey competition winners were Peter Fallon, Joe Bradley and Sean Ferry.

The Turkey competitions continue daily, while the Desmond Motors Winter League Final takes place on Saturday, at 10.30am

There is a Re-Scheduled Christmas Hamper competition taking place on Sunday and (Draw & Tee Times as per original Draw with all Members unable to play and those who want added to Draw asked to leave their names with Golf Reception).

While Cecil Thompson (10) followed up his third place last week with a first place in this weeks Thursday Society, at City of Derry.

Cecil compiled a score of 31 points to finished one ahead of Eamon McCourt (7) and three ahead of last weeks winner Chris Wilson (14).
