In a much changed team the three veterans of last year Peter Cummins, Nathan McCann and Conor McDonald led by example by recording three early victories Peter and Nathan 2/1 and an impressive 8/6 for Conor.

There is always someone who gets a tough draw and on this occasion Darragh McCann ran into a player who could do no wrong and fought hard to keep his match to a 4/3 defeat. This left three matches out on the course.

Peter Kennedy was next up and faced a very tight match which saw him go down 18 one up and everyone was relieved to see him secure his win with a par 5 at the last.

Ronan McCrory’s opponent was out driving Ronan from the tee but he was no match for Ronan’s steady play up the middle and his strong short game.

In front of an ever growing crowd Ronan approached the 16th 2 up and was able to up and down for a par to close his match out 3/2.

Zach Best had a very up and down match and went to the 17th one up. When he pitched to a gimme on the hole, and his player wasn’t on the green in two, he thought his match was all over but in typical match play fashion his opponent holed to take the match down the last hole with Zach still one up. The team captain Timmy Cummins had nothing to worry about as Zach hit the green in his regulation three shots and with two putts for the match he closed it out in fine style.

A good result and the return match at Knock Golf Club takes place at 1.3pm this Sunday.
