Haughian home first in race for monthly medal

He wrapped up the front nine on 38 with six pars and three bogey scores before a steady back leg of 39 that included bogeys at the 15th and final holes alongside seven pars.

As a result, his handicap has now dropped by one shot to nine.

Peter Mulholland was runner-up with a nett 68 courtesy of 38 and 43 around each leg.

His front nine included six pars plus bogeys at the second, third and fifth holes. Three pars and six bogeys made up the return journey.

Thomas Feehan finished with a nett 69 thanks to 43 over each respective leg.

The first outing featured three pars but one triple bogey. The back nine had four pars as highlights alongside a double bogey.

Fintan McAreavey - with a level-par round - registered birdies on the seventh, eighth, 10th and 11th - plus 10 pars.

Ernest McBride was next in line on nett 70. Pars at the third, 12th, 13th, 17th and 18th holes proved highlights.

Steven McEvoy came home on nett 70 thanks to a front nine of 42 with pars around the fourth, seventh and eighth holes. His back nine included four pars.

The senior prize was won by John Fitzpatrick on nett 70.

The section winners were: Matthew Madden (0-12, nett 70), Kevin O’Loan (13-18, nett 72), Raymond Loney (19-28, nett 74).

James Judge and Caolan Reynolds won the junior prizes on, respectively, nett 67 and nett 71.

Silverwood now sit sixth in the Mid-Ulster Seniors’ League thanks to impressive results at Edenmore.

Fourth spot in the standings is just two points away following solid scoring.

Francis Kelly and Brian Brady posted 41 points off the three-quarter handicap.

Silverwood will face Banbridge at home down by just 2.5 to 1.5 following the latest away test in the Des Gregg Knockout Trophy.
