It’s a stroll in the park for Kenny Stevenson’s Senior Cowdy team

The Banbridge Senior Cowdy Cup team, under the captaincy of Kenny Stevenson, progressed to the semi-final, after a rather facile victory over Rossmore Golf Club.

They won the home leg by 30.5 to 1.5 so they headed off to Rossmore looking for a mere two points for victory.

It was all over after nine holes.

Luke Woods, Kenny himself, Jonathan Burns and Paul Magennis were all in front and that was four points in the bag, more than enough.

Kieran Magennis was also going well, all square after nine holes.

The remaining three players, Rory Madeley, Jonathan Ward and Josh Lockhart, were behind but it really didn’t matter.

Senior Cowdy matches are not often won as easily as this and it certainly will be a different story in the semi-final. Banbridge will play Dungannon ant it is sure to be a tight match.

Banbridge are the holders of the Senior Cowdy Cup and they are certainly going the right way to retaining it.

The line-up for the quarterfinals of the Mixed Foursomes Matchplay has been decided.

Kenny and Diana Whan will play Rory Madeley and Melissa Whan; Seamus and Jacinta Rooney will play William and Robina McCandless; John McDowell and Denise Nelson will play Declan and Mary Dooher; Richard and Mildred Hodgett will play Cathal O’Neill and Teresa McConville.

There is a possibility that the two captains, Declan Dooher and Robina McCandless, could meet in the final. It would be nice if it happened but it’s highly unlikely.
