Ivor Harron is the top man in Lambeg stableford

This week’s stableford competition at Lambeg was sponsored by Michael Pollins from MP Repairs and was won by Ivor Harron(7) with a magnificent score of 45 points.

Low handicap players really need to play above their best to win stableford competitions and Ivor did that.

The front nine included four pars, two birdies and three single bogies to give him 20 pts but in the back nine he never dropped a shot, hitting six pars and another three birdies for a well deserved win.

count back

Second place was secured by James Harrup (20) after a count-back when he and Paul Flannaghan (17) both finished on 44 points.

James got off to a brilliant start with a birdie at the first but with a triple bogie at the third he lost the advantage,

The scores over the next few holes were a bit inconsistent and he finished the front nine on 19 points but the return was a lot steadier, with no worse than a five and with five birdies included.

He came home with 25 points to add to his total.

opposite

Paul’s round was the complete opposite when he had a fantastic first nine.

One double bogie at the par three fifth was the only blip as he scored at the other eight holes and finished with a 25 pts on the front nine.

The back nine include two double bogies and he finished with 19 points to lose out on the count-back. Michael English won the best gross.

Congratulations to Tony Hamilton for scoring a hole in one at the eighth in the Wednesday Hat and wins a Boss Watch.

The competition was won by Ritchie Gorman (16) with 43 points.

Next week is Captains Charity day and Club Captain Ritchie Gorman has nominated Action Cancer and the Alzheimer’s Society to receive the proceeds.

collecting

Ritchie has already raised £900 by having the holes sponsored for next week’s competition by local businesses and with each member collecting money on their own sponsorship forms the final total should rise significantly.

The winner will receive The Douglas Parker Memorial Trophy which was donated to the club by Dougies family. Dougie, a long serving member of the committee, was a past Captain and President of the club before falling victim to cancer.

Lots of other prizes have been donated.
