Jack recovers from poor start to lift President’s Day prize

Last week the annual President’s day competition was held at Silverwood golf club and with the course in the best shape of the year with the greens rolling well and fine weather conditions the scores were always going to be high and so it proved.

The winner was Jack Lagan with a score of 43 points. Jack had 19 points on the front nine, not a great start with an 8 at the first hole but softened the blow with two birdies at the next two holes. His remaining holes included three pars, two bogeys and a triple bogey. However the winning of this competition for Jack was his outstanding back nine of 24 points. Jack covered the back nine in two over par with one birdie at the 15th hole, one bogey at the 13th hole and a double bogey at the 16th hole with all remaining holes played in par, for his total of 43 points and a two shot reduction in his handicap. He is now playing off 13.

In second place was Kevin O’Loan with 42 points. He had 19 points on the front nine with five pars, three bogeys and a double bogey. Kevin was another player who had a great back nine of 23 points. This included one birdie at the 13th hole, five pars with three bogeys at the 15th 16th and 17th holes for another excellent round of golf.

The first gross prize was won by Michael Molloy again with the best score of the day with a two under 70. Michael is playing the best golf of anyone at the club at the moment and his front nine reflected this when he went round in 32 shots with three birdies at the 3rd 7th and 8th holes and all remaining holes played in par, his back nine was very consistent with only one bogey on the 16th hole and the remaining holes played in par for an excellent sub-par round of golf.

The second gross prize was won by Fintan McAreavey with a gross 75 just pipping a few other members with a better back nine.

The fifth prize went to John Marley with 40 points while the senior prize was won by David Gilmore with 39 points. The first junior prize was won by Patrick Jordan with 35 points, the second junior prize was won by Darragh McCann with 33 points.
