Ladies play off for the Cocks Rosebowl

The lady members of Banbridge Golf Club played their first Major of the year on Tuesday May 22 for the Rosemary Cocks Rosebowl.

This beautiful trophy is now in its 10th year having first been presented to the ladies branch during Rosemary’s daughter’s Lady Captain’s year in 2003.

In what was a very tightly contested competition the overall winner was Helen Cocks with a net 69.

Section winners were Helen Smyth, Una McSherry and Alana Glass.

The Pink Ladies winner was Pat McCartan, while Sally McConville was runner up.

Twos were scored by Helen Cocks, Diana Whan, Bronach Sands, Margaret Mulligan, Margaret Russell, and Fionnuala Crossey.

Golfer of the Year points were awarded as follows: 6, Helen Cocks; 5 Helen Smyth; 4 Fionnuala Crossey; 3 Una McSherry; 2 Carole Quinn; 1 Sheelagh Jones.

- Congratulations to Fionnuala Crossey who was runner up in the Manchester Cup at Tandragee Golf Club on Saturday May 18.

Team News: The Cowdy Cup team were victorious against Rossmore in their first round match and now play Malone in the next round.

Meanwhile the Junior Cup Team played Omagh in the first round and after an extremely tight contest emerged as winners by one hole. They now play Killymoon in the next round.

The GUI Mixed team captained by Denise and Gerry McBrien played in Spa on Sunday.

The top four teams qualify for the matchplay stages and we are glad to report that Banbridge were third in their group and now play Spa at Dungannon in the first round.
