Ladies warm to the conditions

LAST Tuesday the ladies were competing for Mrs Brid Rodger’s prize at Lurgan.

The ladies were privileged to play in glorious sunshine on the warmest day of the year so far.

Along with the sunshine came some great scoring. There has rarely been a week this season when there has not been a McKavanagh in the prizes and this week the baton was handed to Ita Hanna (McKavanagh to her own name as they would say in Lurgan). Ita had a terrific score of 41 pts and reduced her handicap by two shots. Ita had a very consistent card with only two holes that she didn’t score on and these were balanced out by two fine pars.

Rumour has it that husband Kenny is looking lessons as his only win this year has been with Ita’s assistance in the scramble.

Fresh from winning the sixth gross, at the ladies scratch cup at Hermitage, Niamh Ward continued her good form to win the gross. Niamh has reduced her handicap to three and continues to go from strength to strength. Spurred on by the need to keep her handicap below daughter Maeve.

Section 1 prize went to Fiona Cummins with 38 pts and section 2 went to Irene McCusker with 36 pts. Irene can regularly he seen out playing with husband Ronnie and all her practice is obviously paying off as she is having a really good season on teams as well as in her competitions. Irene just beat Diana McClelland and Pam Graham on the count back so these ladies are ones to look out for in the coming weeks. Section 3 went to Wendy Rusk with an impressive 40 pts. This was Wendy’s first win of the season so the sunshine must have agreed with her and hopefully there are more good scores to come. Margaret O’Neill was the only other lady to beat par with 37 points.

All the ladies enjoyed their golf in the glorious weather and they hope that there are many more such days to follow.

The prize this week was sponsored by Mrs Brid Rodgers. So many thanks to Brid for donating a prize.
