Lisburn lads enjoy a day out at County Down’s world famous links

Lisburn’s Junior Cowdy Cup team got a real treat when they were drawn to play Mourne.

That allowed them to test their mettle on Royal County Down’s championship course during the away leg.

As in this year’s Irish Open, the infamous weather conditions closed in on the local golfers and made the course an immense challenge.

Nonetheless, the local lads bagged 1.5 points, losing by just a point in the away leg.

However, combined with a defeat in the first leg at Lisburn, the overall score was 5-2 in Mourne’s favour.

At RCD’s world-famous links, Barry McQuillan and Alan Gilmore were two down on the 16th tee.

Barry’s par four, however, won the hole and Alan’s par five at the final hole gave them a well deserved half.

Elsewhere, Chris Davis drove the ball well but his partner Chris Warwick discovered the danger of RCD to his cost, losing eight balls and not surprisingly the match as well!

Martin McDonald and Martin Rooney were Lisburn’s only winners in a match they will no doubt remember for a very long time to come.
