Mervyn makes sure Colin isn’t on his Todd in top spot

The competition was played over the longer back nine but the spring-like conditions helped towards some good scoring. Mervyn Mawhinney (14) and Colin Todd (24) were top scorers with 23 points.

Mervyn topped Division Two after a round of 38.

He continued his good form from last week when he played the shortened front nine in 36. Jim Cunningham finished with three pars to beat Michael Rooney on countback for second place after they tied on 22.

Fred Walsh was in the money at Lisburn GC last Wednesday as he bagged third place and got a two on the way.

Three pars in a row starting at the 12th helped Colin Todd (24) win Division Three.

He had two points to spare over Chris Davis (20) who recovered from a poor start to finish with four fours. Eric Wilkinson and Sepp Zwahlen finished outside the prizes with 20 points each.

Philip Sanaghan (12) was two over par after the first five holes but finished with five pars to claim first place in Division One with 22 points.

Three players scored 21 points: Andrew Parr (10), Mark Jamieson (8) and John Price (9) Andrew finished with six pars to win on countback.

Once again scoring birdie twos proved very difficult. There were only eight recorded with Martin Lilley getting two. Michael Leathem was the second person to finish with a two at 18.

The long uphill par four 17th hole is commonly regarded as the most difficult at Lisburn but Stephen Shaw, Robin McCoosh and Mark Jamison all managed birdie threes without winning a prize.

Wednesday Stableford

With a birdie two at the fourth Fred Walsh was the big winner on Wednesday.

Fred and Robin McCoosh were the only competitors to claim twos on the front nine holes. The course was shortened with several temporary greens. Fred also came third in the competition.

Result 1st Wally Killiner 28 pts, 2nd Bill Murphy 28 pts (on countback), 3rd Fred Walsh 27 pts.
