Paul earns his place on Clarke qualifier after day of keen scoring

The winner of the Darren Clarke Qualifier at Silverwood last Saturday was Paul McFadden with 40 points.

Paul went round the front nine in 20 points which included two birdies, three pars at the 1st, 4th and 9th holes and no score at the third with the remaining holes played at one over. His back nine included a birdie at the 17th. Two pars at the 13th and 18th with all the remaining holes played with one over par and winning with a better back nine.

In second place was Sean Ashe with 40 points. Sean had an excellent front nine of 21 points with only one bogey and the remaining holes played in par. His back nine of 19 points included 6 pars and 3 bogeys. In third place was Fintan McAreavey with the lowest gross round of the day two over for 39 points. He had a front nine of 18 points with one birdie at the ninth hole, 5 pars and 3 bogeys. He had a back nine of level par with a birdie at the 12th, a bogey at the 10th and all other holes in par. The gross prize was a close affair between Kevin Munster and Matthew Madden both with 32 gross points with Kevin just edging it on a better back six. Kevin went round the front nine in 2 over par with a birdie at the first hole, 3 bogeys at the 2nd, 3rd and 5th holes and all remaining holes played in par. His back nine again was played in two over par with a birdie at the 10th and bogeys at the 11th, 15th and 16th resulting in a 76 gross.

Fourth prize went to Philip Patterson again with 39 points. Philip had an excellent front nine of 25 points but could not sustain this fine play on the back nine coming home with 14 points.

In fifth place was the hard working club official Frank Gallagher with 38 points.

The seniors was won by John Fitzpatrick with 36 points. Section prizes 0-12 Matthew Madden 38 points; 13-18 Brendan Lappin 36; points19-28; Eamon Nelson 38 points.
